Touring our hometown

I live in the beautiful city of Corning, New York, you know, where the glass comes from. Living here I often forget just how beautiful it is, and how many things there are to see. Once a week. during the summer, I like to take one of my kids downtown to explore the things Corning has to offer. This gives them some much needed Mommy and me time, as well as a break from their other two siblings. This week it was Pheonix's turn, Phee is my 12-year-old middle child. All my children are well weird, probably has to do with having me for a mother! Phee is no exception...
Our beautiful road, and my strangely dressed daughter. In our non-existent town of Gibson.
(It used to be a town, but they decided a long time ago it was just part of Corning)

The local farmer's market. Held in Centerway square on Thursdays. We must have gotten there late, because there isn't much left! The peaches are always delicious, and the strawberries, and the well, everything is wonderful!

There is the "new" bike I picked up while we were walking into town, more on that later!

Some beautiful Sunflowers from a local grower.

The Centerway fountain.

Phee HAD to take a picture of these flowers.

We had lunch at Walker Cake Company

Phee had the Sunflower Salad, and I had the Cajun Chicken Caesar Salad. Both were super yummy! Though, I have to admit, that the sunflower salad was a better choice! I've eaten here before, last time I had a breakfast sandwich that was to die for, with homemade home fries! So glad I went there instead of the Burger King across the street! And the prices are very reasonable!!!
Plus, they have pink flamingos with little pink wigs in the window, how can you go wrong?!
Also, like my new hair clip? They make me super happy, they could you, too! Got them on ebay!

We had a great day, next week it's Seraphine's turn!

Forks! Spoons! Knives!

I'm a pinterest addict, I admit it! My Pinterest  But, at least I'm actually making things that I find on it! I found these mixed up flatware in frames pin that I liked a lot. This is the one. However, there were no actual instructions on how to make it. So,  I came up with my own.

I bought random flatware at the Salvation Army, and three 8"x10" frames. (I started this project before I decided to start my blog, so I have no before pictures.) I spray painted my flatware and frames with Krylon indoor/outdoor gloss white. I'm not very good with spray paint, so there are some spots that have a sort of crackled look, which is ok because I'm going for a vintage worn out look.

Here they are with three coats of spray paint.

Next, I cut up some old black silky fabric I had, about an 1 1/2" bigger than the back from the picture frame. I attached the fabric with packing tape. (No one is going to see it anyways!)

Like so!

Put them back in their frames, glue if necessary. Also, if you need to put in new hangers do this now!

Glue on the flatware with your trusty E-6000 glue, I got mine at JoAnn's. Make sure you put the glue where your flatware piece actually sits on the background! Now we wait... Over night is best... I'm impatient!

And, here they are! I'm still getting the hang of my new camera, so the picture isn't all that great. Also, we still have icky paneling in the kitchen, but hey, its a work in progress!

Movie review - 2012

Last night Chris and I watched 2012 (2009). I'm sure everyone has already seen this, given how old it is and how many people were talking about it. If you haven't, don't bother. I don't really buy into the whole "end of the world" thing, which is probably why I haven't seen this until now. It was far too dramatic and all special effects. During what little story line there was we were yelling at them to quit yaking and hurry up. It seems like when you are running for your life its best to just get a move on it and not try and make out with your ex-wife! John Cusack was amazing, as usual, and its plainly not his fault that this movie was so bad! In short, it was a waste of time, and we got bored several times. IMDb gives this 5.8 out of ten stars. I give it 5.
